Honey: My dog, my friend

I remember the day we got you,
At that animal shelter down the road,
"Another dog!" I squealed with delight,
We walked in and looked at the dogs and cats,
Me and Mom looked at each but she said we didn't have enough money to buy,
As we turned to leave the vet there said,
"We have a dog that no one wants,
She's loving and gentle and good with kids."
She brought out Honey, a 5 month old puppy with a sweet disposition,
We gave you a bath, but ever since then,
You always steered clear of a river or lake,
Over the years we grew up together,
I into adolesence, you into adulthood,
You may be old now, and soon will die,
But I see that puppy spirit in your eye,
I love you Honey, you are sweet like your name says you are,
Again, Arigato (Thank you) for the memories of all the years past,
Honey, My dog, my sibling, my friend....
